Douglas A. Granger, Ph.D.
Founder and Chief Scientific and Strategy Advisor
Dr. Granger is a renowned interdisciplinary scholar, entrepreneur, and pioneer in the field of salivary bioscience. He completed his doctoral training in behavioral science and postdoctoral training in psychoneuroimmunology at the University of California. Dr. Granger held distinguished faculty positions and created and directed labs, centers, and institutes at Penn State, Johns Hopkins, Arizona State, and UC Irvine. He has extensive experience in both basic, clinical, and applied research settings. Since 1992, his research programs have been continuously funded by the National Institute of Health, and the results have significantly advanced our understanding of the internal and external validity of saliva as a minimally invasive biospecimen. Dr. Granger and his collaborators, who hail from every continent and number in the hundreds, have been at the forefront of integrating biological data with psychological research to explore the complex interplay between behavior, stress, development, and health. In 1998, Dr. Granger founded Salimetrics LLC, a company that quickly became a global leader in salivary bioscience. Under his leadership, Salimetrics has developed and refined highly sensitive and specific assays for a wide range of salivary biomarkers, including hormones, antibodies, cytokines, and other molecules relevant to stress, development, immunity, and metabolism. To date, the company’s products and services have been applied in more than 10,500 studies. Dr. Granger’s scientific contributions (more than 425 publications) have been widely recognized, earning him the reputation as one of a handful of thought leaders (H-index = 91, I-10 index = 300). His work continues to support and facilitate a wide range of domestic and international research activity across various fields of study including, for example, pediatrics, gerontology, psychiatry, medicine, sports science, psychology, epidemiology, veterinary sciences, and public health.
